Magnetizing the blade table can be an effective way of stabilizing the knife while sharpening. It can really speed the learning curve up for beginners allowing them to focus more attention on creating a perfect edge and less attention on holding the knife steady.
You may find the occasional knife where the magnetism will hinder your ability to sharpen. So instead of permanently attaching the magnet under the table, we found a way that allows the user to quickly and easily activate and deactivate the magnet by raising and lowering it, no tools required. Use the magnetic knife sharpener when it's helpful, lower the magnet when it's not. Quick and simple. Just the way we like it.
Installing the Edge Pro Apex table magnet accessory on new machines is VERY simple. The housing press fits (tightly) under the table. For older models, you may have to replace the leg screws (which will be provided) to make room for the magnet.

Retractable magnet
Works great. A small magnet that can really help hold knives more secure which helps make the sharpening process easier and better.

I was thinking about doing something like this myself but then I learned you already did it. Makes sharpening much easier.

Helpful Addition
As a first-time user of the Apex sharpener this magnet is invaluable. It assists me with the proper placement of the blade on the table and helps delay the fatigue in my arthritic hands. I really like the ability to engage and disengage the magnet when needed.

Apex Retractable Magnet
Very strong magnet holds knives securely. I have an older Apex and did have to remove the front legs and replace the original screws with the provided one. Highly recommended.

I really like this option as it makes keeping the knife in place so much easier. Good investment.

This should be standard with the Edge Pro, it makes it so much easier to hold your knife on the blade table. Now you only need a modicum of downward pressure on your knife to keep it flat, so you can more easily focus on keeping the edge parallel to the blade table. Almost bought a competitor's product with built in magnets but ended up with this magnet instead, and am very glad i tried it. Thanks guys.

I've been using magnets on my Apex for a few years with satisfactory results. So when I saw the Retractable Magnet attachment I knew I wanted to try it. I find the device to be far superior to what I was using previously. The magnet is stronger, holding the blade in position more firmly and making sharpening easier and better. I especially like the retractable feature and how easy the attachment was to install on my Apex. This is a well designed and much appreciated addition to my Edge Pro, well worth the cost. I have three knife specific Apex models and I ordered the Retractable Magnet attachment for each of them. Great product.

At first (before I ordered it) I wasn't really sure about how well the Apex Retractable Magnet was going to work or if it was actually going to aid in sharpening blades. After one use I quickly learned it's well worth the money. The magnet is very strong and holds knives to the table very well, and keeps them "locked" in position. It's easy to install and can be retracted at any time if you don't want to use it. Thank you!

I have an Apex and the Pro model sharpeners. I use the Pro mostly at home and I bought the magnet for the Apex just in case I needed it. I found a great use for it. A customer gave me a 20 inch bayonet to sharpen and it was very tricky keeping it steady on the sharpening table. With the magnet it was a cinch. Boy, I am glad I bought it. It works great for normal sized knives as well.
